Black History Month Virtual Exhibition

06 Oct 26

For Black History Month, Our Library has opened a new digital exhibition. Wander through six rooms of photographs, objects, music and stories. You can visit one room, or all six, skip things and return later.

Along the way, you might encounter photographs somebody decided to keep of Manchester carnival, read migration in the changing streets of Manchester, or think about bodies, inheritance and belonging. Elsewhere, a poster for a 1980's night out opens the door onto Manchester's music venues, while protests and graffiti ask how you make yourself heard when nobody gives you a stage. The final room looks forward: what will we carry with us into the future?

None of these rooms are intended to be the final word. Each invites visitors to respond, contribute and help curate what the exhibition contains.

So if you've got a got a few minutes, or think one of the rooms might spark your interest, come and have a wander through history.
