Textiles

Course Description

If you’re excited by pattern, colour, design or making and you love working hands-on to bring bold ideas to life, Textiles is where it all begins. Here you’ll have the freedom to experiment, innovate and push boundaries, while building the skills to turn your creativity into your future.

From your very first day you’ll dive straight into designing and making, using our specialist studio to explore an incredible range of techniques. You’ll draw, print, stitch, embellish, weave, crochet and construct, discovering how to turn your ideas into stunning textiles, garments and surfaces. Every project challenges you to think differently, take risks and bring your own personality into your work.
You’ll also take on an exciting employability project that puts you in the shoes of a professional designer. You’ll research trends, profile customers and develop products that could sell on the high street, presenting your concepts to an industry expert. It’s competitive, creative and inspiring, with winners receiving a £50 Trafford Centre voucher and invaluable feedback from someone working in the field.

In your second year, the course becomes all about you. You’ll define your own pathway, choosing from fashion, textiles, interiors, costume, art or creating something completely original and craft a portfolio that showcases your vision and ambition. Whether you dream of designing runway collections, creating stunning interior concepts, crafting breathtaking textile art or producing bespoke pieces that tell your story, we’ll help you get there.

You’ll finish the course with an incredible portfolio, advanced technical and creative skills that set you apart - skills that can’t be replaced by AI and are increasingly valued in a world of mass automation - and the confidence to take your next step, whether that’s university, an apprenticeship or launching into the creative industries.
