Dance Student Secures Place At Prestigious Institute
A huge congratulations to Rebekah Lyons, a talented Dance student at Ashton Sixth Form College, who has secured a place at the highly respected Bird College in Sidcup, London. She’ll be heading there in September to begin a three-year BA (Hons) course in Dance and Musical Theatre.
Rebekah has been dancing since the age of three at the Janice Hughes School of Dance, training in just about every style you can think of – from ballet and tap to jazz, contemporary, lyrical, commercial, street, and even acro. Her lifelong passion and commitment to the art have now led her to one of the top conservatoires in the country.
Speaking about her time at ASFC, Rebekah said:
"I loved doing Dance at Ashton with Tam and Luke Whitefoot. I never felt like just another student in the class – they gave me personal feedback and targets that really helped me grow and work towards my own goals."
That individual support made a big difference, especially during audition season in early 2025, and even earlier when Rebekah was juggling college life with performing in a professional pantomime during her first year.
"They were so supportive while I was settling in – helping me balance everything and keep progressing," she said.
She also described the course as a great mix of challenge and creativity:
"It pushed me in the right ways, helped me develop new skills, and gave me loads of chances to be creative with choreography and express myself."
Rebekah now heads to Bird College full of excitement for the next stage in her training – and we can’t wait to see what she does next.
Well done, Rebekah!
