Three New Pathways to Shape Your Future
Ashton Sixth Form College is excited to announce the launch of three brand-new courses for September 2026, expanding opportunities for students interested in health, education, science and social care. These new pathways have been developed to meet growing demand for skilled professionals across these sectors and to give young people even more choice when planning their future.
From next year, applicants will be able to choose from:
Occupational Entry in Social Care (NCFE CACHE Level 3 Technical Diploma)
This full three A-Level equivalent qualification offers a comprehensive route into the social care sector.
Students will develop essential knowledge and practical skills in areas such as mental health, dementia, learning disabilities, care planning and infection control. The course includes a professional work placement, giving learners real experience in a social care environment and preparing them for a meaningful career supporting individuals, families and communities.
Graduates can progress directly into employment or continue to higher education in fields such as Nursing, Social Work, Counselling and Health Care.
AAQ Medical Science (BTEC National Extended Certificate)
A modern and flexible course equivalent to one A-Level, AAQ Medical Science blends theory with hands-on scientific investigation.
Students will explore human anatomy, physiology, pathology, microbiology and infectious disease, alongside developing research, data analysis and laboratory skills. Optional units allow learners to specialise in areas including biomedical science, human reproduction or disease and treatment.
This pathway is ideal for students interested in Nursing, Physiotherapy, Psychology and a range of health science university courses.
AAQ Early Childhood Development (BTEC National Extended Certificate)
Designed for those passionate about supporting young children’s learning and wellbeing, this course provides an in-depth exploration of development from birth to age 8.
Students will study child development, safeguarding, play and learning, and reflective practice, gaining a strong foundation for careers in early years education, teaching, child nursing, social work and psychology.
These new courses represent Ashton Sixth Form College’s continued commitment to offering diverse, high-quality routes into further study, training and employment.
