Year 10 Theology XL Conference

26 Sep 25

This week, we were delighted to welcome Year 10 students from local high schools to Ashton Sixth Form College for our first Year 10 XL Conference of the academic year!

The opening conference focused on Theology, with students taking part in engaging sessions across History, Sociology, Law, and Philosophy, Ethics & Religion. They also enjoyed hearing from keynote speaker, Revd Simon Oatridge.

Simon, a former teacher of Religious Studies, Theology, Philosophy, and History, holds Master’s degrees in both Theology and History. He shared his personal journey of study, faith, and career, delivering an inspiring and interactive talk titled “Theology – The Pursuit of Happiness”, where he explored how happiness can be found in God.

Students also had the chance to meet Rob Murray-Green, our new Head of XL Academy, who gave valuable insight into what life is like as an XL student at Ashton.

It was a fantastic day of discovery, with students experiencing subjects they may not encounter at GCSE, while also gaining a real sense of the opportunities available through our XL Academy for high-achieving learners.

This is just the first of many XL Conferences taking place this year, and we look forward to welcoming even more Year 10 students in the months ahead!
