Art Alumni joins Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year

3 November 2021

Ashton Sixth Form College alumni Emily Schofield will feature on Sky Arts' Portrait Artist of the Year.

Emily started at Ashton in 2017 studying A Levels in Fine Art, Graphic Design and Dance. She was part of the XL tutorial programme for high achievers, achieving A*A*B.

After completing her A Levels, Emily progressed on to the Art Foundation Year course at Ashton. The Art Foundation Year course prepares students for a career or degree in the creative industry, allowing students to find their specialisms and develop their skills and passions.

Emily is currently at university studying Art and also sells a range of prints on her online shop.

Tonight, Emily will feature on the incredible Portrait Artist of the Year, a Sky Arts TV show hosted by Stephen Mangan. The show looks to find a new star portrait artist, judged by artist Tai Shan Schierenberg, independent curator Kathleen Soriano and art historian Kate Bryan.

On Instagram, Emily explained how her appearance on the show has been a long time coming "with lots of set back because of the pandemic". She was previously scheduled to be on last years series. The experience will no doubt have been worth the wait!

Winners of the TV show are awarded a £10,000 commission to paint a famous personality or location, previous subjects have include Nile Roger, Kim Cattrall, Graham Norton, The Imperial War Museum and Venice. The final piece then becomes part of a national gallery.

You can watch Emily on Sky Arts tonight at 8pm.
