Welcome Evening for Parents/Carers

19 March 2024, 6.00pm – 7.30pm

Parents and Carers of prospective parents are invited to attend our next Welcome Evening on Tuesday 19th March 2024. The evening will run from 6pm until 7:30pm.

The evening will consist of a 15 minute introductory talk in the Lecture Theatre, followed by 3 x 20 minute sessions which you can chose below.
 

  • Q&A with the Principal - Meet college Principal Lisa Richards, find out about the college’s ambitions and rising aspirations and have any questions you may have answered in this Q&A session.
  • Q&A with the Head of XL Academy - Meet Damian, the head of our XL Academy, and find out about the academy’s ambitions and rising aspirations and have any questions you may have answered in this Q&A session.
  • Senior Tutors - Find out from the tutors what your child's day would look like, how we support students and parents, options for financial support and much more.
  • Admissions process and enrolment - This session offers admissions advice including explaining the course choice at Ashton Sixth Form College and entry requirements, what to do on results day and the enrolment process.
  • Inclusive Learning - Find out more about the personalised support for students with learning difficulties, disabilities and additional needs.  
  • Extra curricular opportunities and enrichment - The student experience extends far beyond the classroom. Find out about our unrivalled range of extension and enrichment activities, volunteering opportunities and curriculum trips and visits.
  • Supporting mental health - Find out more about our outstanding counselling service and the strategies we use to help our young people to cope and manage their time at college.
  • Realising Aspirations - Our flagship university preparation programme, aims to prepare you for life after college. Through seminars and lectures given by leading university professors, students will experience university life in a subject area that they are most interested in whilst visiting universities across the country too!
  • The Extended Project Qualification - The EPQ is an additional qualification, equivalent to 1 AS Level, that allows you to develop your personal interest in a topic or area that interests you. Completing the EPQ demonstrates your ability to carry out independent research and a level of commitment that universities and employers look for.
  • Be Ambitious - Our Employability Programme is designed to support students with gaining meaningful work experience by self-placing or participating in an employer-led project at college.
  • Q&A with student panel - Meet with some of our current students, find out about their college experience and have any questions you may have answered in this Q&A session.
