Principals' Recognition Lunch Spring term 2023

Centre Principal, Lisa Richards held the third recognition lunch for nominated pupils this week. This half term, each department nominated 1 student and each support area nominated 2-4 students who have stood out to them throughout the term.

The following are the students who have received nominations:

Weronika Wilczek

"Weronika is an excellent ‘tri-art’ student. She gives 100% effort in every lesson and goes above and beyond at any opportunity including representing photography at our recent open evening. We’re all really pleased with Weronika’s positive attitude and high level of motivation - very well done!"

Elliot Davey

"From the start of his time at ASFC, Elliot showed great enthusiasm and initiative which he has sustained throughout. Not only does he show fluent design skills but he is also an adept project manager, technical wizard and all round nice guy! His recent work has extended way beyond the project parameters to include branding, fashion design, web and animation design. One to watch for the future. Well done."

"Jed has been nominated by his Chemistry teacher for his participation and work-rate.  In lessons, Jed engages very well with the work and outside of lessons Jed has participated in the Chemistry and Physics Olympiad stretching his problem solving skills. He has made a great start to his A-level journey!"

Priya Mistry

"Priya regularly attends the High Grade Society sessions in Chemistry and regular Chemistry subject support as well as participating very well in lessons. No wonder she achieved a fantastic grade A in her mock exam – much deserved; well-done Priya!"

Arlo Turner

"Arlo is a very deserving nominee for recognition in Physics for doing amazing work in the subject – self teaching himself advanced physics material and problem solving, participating in Oxford’s Masterclasses programme. Arlo also achieved impressively a bronze medal in the Year 13 British Physics Olympiad, whilst being in Year 12. The future is bright, Arlo – well done!"

Lucas Habgood

"Lucas has been nominated for doing outstanding work at the British Physics Olympiad achieving a silver medal at the hardest Physics National Competition and securing an offer from Oxford University. He is an excellent ambassador for our department and Physics and is set to have a very successful future."

Amelia Blow

"Since the outset of the course Amelia has applied maturity, focus and commitment to her studies. She keeps up to date with all set work and is quick to respond to tasks, paying attention to detail. She works hard and will volunteer to help out, for example, at open days. She has excellent attendance and is a conscientious, exemplary student. Well done Amelia. I have been pleased with her organisation and ability to keep on top of her reflective logs and technical skills to add videos. Keep up this good work and attitude and keep pushing yourself practically and theoretically to aim high"

Katheryne Paloma

"Katheryne is an exceptionally conscientious and very talented Music Tech student. Since she started in Year 1 she has thrown herself in to learning the technical and creative side of music production, going above and beyond the independent time required to make sure she achieves the highest grades possible for every piece of work submitted. She has consistently strived to learn new techniques and approaches, and this really shines through in her creative work. She is an all-round exceptional student."

Viraj Parmar

"Viraj is a lovely, hardworking and engaged student. He starts every lesson eager to learn and with a positive attitude. He has thrown himself into the IT course and is reaping the benefit with some good grades. Along with this, Viraj wants to actively support his peers. This year he has learned a lot of new technical skills in web development. Viraj is always more than happy to sit with other students when I am busy, and support them, demonstrating new techniques and ways of working. He deserves to be recognised for his attitude and commitment. He's a pleasure to have in the classroom."

Khdeeja Ahmed

"Khdeeja is an outstanding student. She never misses a session and consistently works at her best. Khdeeja asks insightful questions and offers outstanding answers. She is the full package IT learner, working at Distinction level in the technical tasks and writing at a high level in the theoretical elements. Khdeeja deserves recognition for her contribution to her cohort and her dedication to learning and achievement."

Millie Sigley

"Millie is an exceptional student within the department. She is consistently performing to A / A* standard in assessments. She is very vocal in class, fully engaged in her learning and takes a proactive approach to her learning. Well done Millie, and keep this up!"

Bayo Folami

"Bayo is an outstanding student who achieved one of the highest marks in the progression exam. He is fully engaged in his learning and takes active part in his lessons, an absolute pleasure to teach and a real asset to the department. Thank you and well done, Bayo."

Shazeb Akbar

"Shazeb is an amazing mathematician who is always willing to help others, but he is very modest about his ability. Within lessons he will explain to others how to do questions and he has recently started to mentor year 1 maths students. In his recent December mock he gained one of the highest grades within the year.  Well done, Shazeb."

Max Pelling

"Max was the highest of a few students who went from grade 3 - 6,   and he put in significant effort to do so, despite several challenges. Max was a completely dedicated and focused GCSE English student. He approached his classes with a positive, friendly attitude, a real desire for self-improvement and a determination to triumph over setbacks. Max thoroughly deserved his high grade. He was a pleasure to teach."

Sarah Standley

"Sarah has a committed attitude towards her Spanish studies in difficult times and her invaluable contribution in the production of resources for learning/ practicing all the A1 and A2 vocabulary units through QUIZLET, which she has altruistically shared with her classmates and my A1 students."

Katherine Axon

"Caitlin is a model student who is never late to class and is always so polite. She has volunteered to support the sport teams and has shown real community spirit. Caitlin has also attended extra sessions to make sure her work is the best it can be."

Her attention to detail in her note taking is exceptional and she is always polite to all members within the group. She has worked really hard to her revision for her January examination."

Zack Rahman

"Zack is an extremely polite, well mannered, hardworking Criminology student who always goes above and beyond in class. He will always take part in group discussions, making him a likable member of the class. He is a credit to the Criminology department and will always support his peers. He often offers a "more relatable" explanation for his peers to aid in their understanding of the content, as mine aren't always as cool as his. Well done Zack, your efforts do not go unrecognised!"

"Abdullah has been nominated because he is extremely hard working, thoughtful and questioning in class which I think really benefits the lesson. "Jess has overcome a lot since starting in September and now has some physical struggles she is having to process but is not letting it affect her college work (Currently working at 2 A's and an A*). She's a delightful student, always smiling, kind and very polite in IL. I am also extremely proud of her persistence, hard work and dedication, and she possibly holds the college record for commendations! She should be very proud of herself and most certainly deserves huge success. Well done Jess."

Kiera Myatt

"Kiera has had to overcome many obstacles coming into A2 and she has also had exam anxieties and was unsure about the future. Since coming back from Christmas, she has gone straight back into a routine; working on her exam anxieties, she has been revising well and feels a lot more confident. Keira has also applied for multiple apprenticeships. Keira is a very independent, hardworking and organised individual. All round lovely student! It has been a pleasure to support her, and I hope she realizes how strong she is and how far she has come."

Tom Keogh

"Tom quietly works his socks off. His work is always thorough and on time. He takes an active part in every lesson - he taught a section of one of the lessons the other week! He's also great at making connections with other students and works really well in groups, whoever he is put with.  A real star in the classroom and we are so pleased to have him as a member of the Humanities department."

Khadija Jannah

"Khadija is an impressively motivated student who is always early to lessons with excellent attendance. She is passionate about Sociology and offers thoughtful and insightful ideas on both contemporary issues and sociological theory. She is currently working above her minimum target grade and is always keen to improve her knowledge further. "Beth is part of Tycoons Allstars (a local cheerleading group) who recently won a qualifying competition in Paris, leading to an invite to compete in the Summit Cheerleading Competition in Florida this year. Beth also is part of the college women’s football team and has shown fantastic attitude and commitment since the start of the year. A fabulous contributor to college and a thoroughly well-rounded individual. Well done!"

Aisha Amin

"Aisha successfully completed the 6-week Sign language enrichment and the criminal psychology enrichment with 100% attendance.  From observing the sign language enrichment, Aisha was always engaged and actively took part in the sessions; asking questions, giving examples and ensuring she was doing everything correctly by asking the teacher. Aisha is a very respectful and hard-working student who clearly puts 100% effort into the task at hand. Thank you for your participation and engagement, Aisha."

Amelia Kerr

"Amelia successfully completed the 6-week Sign Language Enrichment. Amelia was always at the front of the class and had full attention and was so engaged in every session. Amelia really took on board everything she was taught and was confidently and successfully practising her sign language with peers in the classroom. Amelia was always smiling, asked questions and was a joy to have in the group. If this is how Amelia approaches other aspects of her life, she will go far. Well done, Amelia."

Sadia Kamagate Gomes

"Sadia is an active participant of the 2022/23 RA programme. Sadia has shown a great deal of enthusiasm so far, attending various university visits and academic taster sessions. She is not shy to get involved, asks insightful questions to university staff/academics and also encourages other students. Sadia has really made the most of the RA Programme so far and is focused on taking up additional opportunities to support her future career as a nurse. A fabulous participant – well done, Sadia."

Beth James

"Beth is an active participant of the 2022/23 RA programme. So far, Beth has attended numerous university visits and subject taster sessions. Beth is one the most engaged students on the programme this year; she always displays a positive attitude and is up for exploring opportunities potentially outside of her comfort zone. If her engagement on the RA programme is anything to go by, Beth has excellent potential to go much further in her studies and in life. Keep it up, Beth."

Neah Jesuthasan

"Neah was not only a fantastic participant on the 2021/22 RA programme with 100% attendance, but was a great representative of the college when supporting Year 10 RA events. Neah’s positive nature shone through when supporting younger students and peers throughout her first year at college; I am very grateful for her hard work supporting the Year 10 RA Programme and always going above and beyond for the college. Jacob Colville-Mace

"Jacob participated in the RA programme 2021/22 and was one of ten students who achieved a place on The Brilliant Club’s Scholars Programme. Although Jacob was interested in Computer Science, he successfully completed the programme which was more Biology focused. To support his next steps, he gave up his time to complete additional work and achieved a 1st class essay at the end of the Scholars Programme, with excellent feedback from a PhD Tutor (University of Manchester). Throughout Year 12, he was a committed student with 100% attendance to RA events and always went above and beyond. Wow! Well done, Jacob"

Esther Kabwika

"Not only does Esther eat all of our biscuits and drink all of our coffee, but she is always ready to help with whatever tasks are on hand – from labelling new stock to shelving returned books to directing students to where they need to go in the library. She is a warm and friendly presence in the library."

"Jess is a friendly presence in the library who often stops in to help out in the office. Jess has helped label new stock and shelve books which has seriously helped out the team on some of our busier days."

Charlotte Walton-Thorpe

"Charlotte went above and beyond at our last interview evening to support the team and prospective students. She was proactive and ensured that the college was represented positively to both students and their parents. Natasha Mutopo

"Natasha recently secured offers from universities to study midwifery, which is a fantastic achievement. She carefully researched midwifery in preparation for her UCAS application, crafting an excellent personal statement and thoroughly preparing for her university interviews, attending multiple mock interviews with the college Careers Team. Natasha’s enthusiasm, commitment, determination to succeed and positivity will stand her in good stead as a midwife. It is no mean feat getting into midwifery – well done.
