Duke of Edinburgh students take to the the water

26 April 2012

Students working towards their Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award have been taking part in canoeing sessions in order to gain their British Canoe Union (BCU) 2 star award. The students were recently spotted getting in some expedition practice on the River Mersey.

The students tackled a stretch of water from Burnage Rugby Club to Jacksons Boat near Sale Water Park. During the trip the students were assessed for their BCU 2 star award as well as gaining river reading skills and strategies in preparation for their Gold qualifying expedition on the river Wye.

Taking part were students Samuel Beard, Rob Goldstone, Ashleigh Higginbottom and Christopher Walker. The trip was led by BCU coach and ICT teacher Timothy Crowther and assisted by aspirant BCU coach Alan Little.

Best of luck for the Gold qualifying expedition everyone!
