Core Maths will build on your GCSE Maths knowledge with a sharper focus on problem solving. The qualification is to be studied alongside your course choices and will strengthen your skills, focussing on applying mathematics to solve relevant everyday problems.
Through this qualification you will increase your confidence and as a result, you will be better equipped for the mathematical demands of other courses, university, apprenticeships and employment.
This qualification would suit students on A-Level, Mixed Study or vocational programmes, but in particular students choosing to study Psychology, Sociology, Geography, Biology, Chemistry, Applied Science, Accounting, Economics and Business (or any course with a Maths element).
This is an extra qualification and would be studied alongside your course choices. It does not take the place of one of your 3 course choices or your 1 vocational course choice. You must not have chosen to study A-Level Mathematics or Further Mathematics.

Studying Core Maths helps students develop their quantitative and problem-solving skills. This is valuable preparation for the quantitative skills they will need for many degree courses, particularly subjects such as psychology, geography, business-related courses, sports and social sciences, and natural science courses that do not require A Level Mathematics.
