Work placements are now a compulsory element of all of our vocational courses. In addition, we have a high number of A-level students who choose to access placements to strengthen their University, Apprenticeship and job applications. Other specialist groups, such as students going on to study competitive degrees, also complete placements as part of their college life. We arrange over 1000 placements each year.
Work placements offer an unrivalled learning experience for students and we are always keen to expand our network of placement providers. Should you take on a placement student, you would:
- Have access to a young person with interest and knowledge within his/her subject area who could contribute to your company through the work they carry out whilst on placement.
- Have potential to carry out project or other work which you may not otherwise have time to do.
The placements will be assessed and as such students will be expected to carry out the following whilst on placement:
- Maintain a portfolio, including a reflective journal, of the work they carry out.
- Carry out a number of work based learning exercises – further details will be provided by the student as these will often be linked to specific units of work.
Before the start of the placement you will receive further information on the objectives in relation to the course of study, and if the student will be required to carry out any additional specific duties etc. You will also receive confirmation of the student’s details so you can contact them in advance and request a pre-placement interview where necessary.
Any student working in regulated activity with children or vulnerable adults will be in possession of an enhanced DBS check prior to the start of their placement.
If you feel you may be able to offer a placement then please get in touch.
