This year, five more students are joining the impressive roster of former Ashton Sixth Form College students that have progressed onto Oxbridge institutions securing places at the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge.

All five students were part of the Ashton XL scheme, unique to Ashton Sixth Form College, that supports high achievers. Students on this scheme receive targeted support from expert tutors and have access to a range of enrichment activities such as Oxford and Cambridge conferences, residential courses at Villiers Park Educational Trust, Cambridge and mock Oxbridge style interviews with tutors from Oxford and Cambridge in the dedicated Pembroke Suite.

The college has a strong enrichment programme and one in which all of this year’s Oxbridge students have been involved in such as clubs, societies and our Student Ambassador Scheme. Most of them have taken part in our Realising Aspirations programme, which allows students to attend lectures and seminars delivered by an academic from over 17 universities for their chosen subject, as well as giving the students a chance to visit a university and see what university life has to offer.

Principal, Anton McGrath said "We at Ashton Sixth Form College are immensely proud of our students and the range of disciplines they have chosen. With the balance of traditional academic subjects such as Physics and more specialised courses such as Experimental Psychology, it shows how our strongest pupils can not only prove their expertise in the A Level subjects they study here at Ashton Sixth Form College, but that they demonstrate their aptitude for new academic courses".

Joshua Williamson - History & Economics - University of Oxford

Daniel Thorley - Physics (4 year MPhys) - University of Oxford

Charlotte Peart - Experimental Psychology - University of Oxford

Ruby Webb - Natural Sciences - University of Cambridge

Chelsea Byrom - Chemistry - University of Oxford

This has been a fantastic year of success for Ashton Sixth Form College and its students confirmed in recent league tables which puts the college top for A-Level achievement ahead of other colleges and sixth forms in the area.
