ASFC is a highly successful Sixth Form. We offer programmes at Level 1, 2 & 3, catering for students of all abilities.
With over 45 different subjects to choose from there is a course programme to suit each individual.
Courses
ASHTON XL - GIFTED & TALENTED PROGRAMME
We make sure that our most talented students are given every opportunity to achieve their potential and to progress to the University of their choice. All teachers challenge students to produce work of the highest quality and all courses within Ashton Sixth Form College have a stretch and challenge strategy.
Our Gifted and Talented Co-ordinator, Mr Ron Norman, runs a successful programme called Ashton XL to support those academic high-flyers and students with creative or sporting talents. In addition to the outstanding careers support which all students receive, those students wishing to apply for medicine, law, journalism or similar and make applications to Oxford or Cambridge Universities take part in extra-curricular activities, designed to significantly enhance their applications.
A number of additional courses such as Critical Thinking and the Extended Project Qualification are available to provide challenging and stimulating additions to students’ programmes. The strongest academic all-rounders are also allocated to specialist tutor groups led by the Gifted and Talented Co-ordinator.
We have a number of activities in place to stretch and challenge our most able.
• Mentoring by a dedicated Teacher for Gifted and Talented (Ashton XL programme)
• Specialist tutor groups for Gifted and Talented students
• AS/A2 Critical Thinking
• Extended Project Qualification
• Debating group

• Talented student sponsorship
• Support for students who have sporting/theatrical/musical and other talents
• Rich and varied enrichment programme.
