08.03.2010 - Ashton Sixth Form College student set to study Medicine at Cambridge University
Ashton Sixth Form College student David Davies has been successful in securing an offer to study at the Sidney Sussex College in the University of Cambridge. David attended Alder Community High School, and is currently studying A-Levels in Maths, Further Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
David is part of the Ashton XL programme at Ashton Sixth Form College which aims to help the brightest students to achieve at the highest possible level .He has also benefitted from the expertise of XL tutor Ron Norman, who, over the years, has helped a number of his tutees to make it to Oxford, Cambridge and other Russell Group universities.
David has been studying hard at Ashton Sixth Form and his work ethic has paid off, in his first year he secured the highest AS level results with A grades across the board in his 5 chosen subjects. Competition for places at Sidney Sussex however is fierce, there are a total of 8 places available on the course but David is confident he can get the required grades of A*, A, A. “I do get nervous before exams, but I also try and put in as much preparation as I can, I’d say 2-3 weeks of targeted revision per exam is the average.”
Asked why he had chosen Cambridge it was clear David had considered his options,
“I did my research and Sidney Sussex really stood out for me, it’s traditional, central and has a reputation for taking North West students from state schools, plus it’s really central and close to the cinema.” David also has offers from The University of Central Lancashire to study biomedical sciences, and forthcoming interviews at Durham and Imperial College London”.
We would like to offer our congratulations to David on securing the offer, and wish him the best of luck with his ongoing and forthcoming examinations.
